Archer Drive Scenic Drive and Lookout in the Ravensthorpe Range provides a picturesque scenic drive which allows you to experience the gold mining industry, and natural and farmland scenery in the Esperance area. The drive also in spring also provides unique wildflower viewing opportunities. Ravensthorpe is situated eight hours drive south of Perth.
The Mount Short Scenic Drive is a 40 kilometre scenic drive for those with four wheel drive vehicles only. The destination is Mount Short, the highest point in the Ravensthorpe Range at 453 metres. Mount Short can be climbed for beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Along the way travellers can enjoy the pleasant local flora, wildflowers and mining relics.
Take one the many Donnybrook Balingup Scenic Drives to witness some of the most beautiful countryside in the state's southwest. Thanks to the heavy rainfall in the area, there is a profusion of colour most of the year round. Depending on your time schedule each drive can take between one to three hours to complete. If time permits make sure you allow for a stop in some of the local towns as you pass through. Donnybrook is one of the state's primary fruit growing areas and there is an abundance of alluring orchards that you will pass on your drive. Stop and purchase some locally grown fruit from one of the many roadside stalls and enjoy a fresh local sample of Western Australia's fine produce. Walk-trails throughout the region allow you to take a break from the car and get some fresh air. Discover some of the area's beautiful flora and fauna and stop for a break at one of the many picnic areas. If time permits visit Donnybrook and try some of the region's apples in liquid form at the Cider Factory, or take a look at a variety of historical buildings made out of the renowned Donnybrook stone.
The Mount Madden Scenic Drive is a 160 kilometre circular tour and you should allow five to six hours depending on stops. Embrace the beautiful scenery, wildflowers, and birds. Good picnicking spots are situated along the drive. If you wish to make a quick trip straight to Mt Madden and return, then this may be done in about two hours. Mount Madden provides a good 360 degree look out. There is also an historic plaque of John Septimus Roe, explorer/surveyor who died in 1848. Brochures available at the Ravensthorpe Tourist Bureau.
The Hamersley Drive Heritage Trail Scenic Drive offers a picturesque tour of the Fitzgerald River National Park and surrounding towns. Discover the dramatic coastline and enjoy the panoramic views offered at several lookouts along the way. Keep eyes out for the Southern Right whales gliding through the ocean. Explore the river by canoe or fish from the shoreline. Bird watchers will appreciate the chance to observe over 200 species of birds that live in the national park Stop for lunch at one of the designated picnic sites before continuing on this spectacular scenic drive. Allow a full day to complete the drive at a comfortable pace. If time permits, explore the park further by camping overnight at one of the many campsites on offer. The scenic drive commences at Ravensthorpe, seven hours southeast of Perth. A helpful guide can be collected from the town's visitor centre. Whilst in Ravensthorpe explore the farming town on foot along the two hour Cattlin Creek Heritage Trail.
The scenic drive through Bunbury, Collie and Donnybrook provides a wonderful introduction to the highlights of the southwest countryside. Take a day or two to just meander through these lovely southwest towns, or if you have time, stop off and visit the myriad of attractions that are on offer. Put your hiking boots on and explore much of this magnificent area on foot or bike. Collie Shire offers the longest part of the Bibbulmun Track and there are a magnificent range of walks and bike trails surrounding the town. Stop at one of the lookouts at the top of the Darling Ranges near Collie for a magnificent view to the coast. Visit Wellington Weir for lunch and a drive or walk around the expanse of water. You will be in awe of the beautiful countryside around Donnybrook, which maintains its lushness thanks to the high annual rainfall. Bunbury is a two and a half hour drive south of Perth and is the capital of the state's southwest region. Don't forget to bring your camera and take frequent stops to capture the splendour of the region and this scenically impressive drive trail.
Scenic drives through fields of spring time wildflowers and picturesque farmland makes Chapman Valley a popular destination for self drive adventure. Located north east of Geraldton, Chapman Valley is a prime spot for wildflower fans, with bright pink, blue and white everlastings colouring the landscape during the season. The area between Nanson and Yuna is where you'll find some of the best wildflower shows. The scenic flat-topped Moresby Ranges dominate the landscape south west of Chapman Valley, where you'll also find a number of station grazing properties. The area is rich in farming history - look out for colonial buildings like the two stone churches in Nanson. Stop in and visit the Chapman Valley Historical Museum (open Wednesdays 9am to 1pm and Sundays 1pm to 4pm), or pack a picnic and simply enjoy the wide open spaces. You can drive to the Chapman Valley area in about five hours from Perth or start your exploration within 15 minutes from Geraldton.
The Ethel Daw Scenic Drive is a 30 kilometre heritage trail. Allow yourself one to two hours. Drive up to Mount Desward Lookout at 340 metres high, for a fabulous 360 degree view over bushland, old mines and on a good day, the Southern Ocean. The Lighthouse Scenic Drive offers breathtaking views of the North West Cape as you drive up to Valmingh Head. Meander up the hill to see the grand Vlamingh Lighthouse for spectacular panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and Ningaloo Reef. Be sure to keep a look out for migrating whales during the migration season. Take the interactive tour of the 1912 lighthouse and learn about its interesting history. Continue to the edge of the lookout to see the site of World War II aircraft ruins. For a small cost you can hire binoculars to take full advantage of the magnificent views. Whilst in the area, ensure you make time to explore the magnificent marine life of the Ningaloo Reef. The Lighthouse Scenic Drive starts just outside of Exmouth, which is a 14 hour drive north of Perth. It is advisable to contact the Exmouth Tourist Bureau to confirm the drive is open prior to departure.
The Mount Shadforth Scenic Drive takes you on a leisurely one hour sightseeing tour through the farming region surrounding Denmark. Taking in spectacular ocean views and the stunning landscape backdrops of the Porongurups and Stirling Ranges in the distance, the scenic drive is well worth doing. Make a day of it and stop along the way at a number of exceptional wineries and arts and craft galleries to check out the local talents. The drive commences two kilometres out of the town of Denmark and offers a short or longer version, depending on the time available to you. Take advantage of numerous photographic opportunities including the panoramic view from Mohr Drive overlooking Wilson Inlet and the Southern Ocean. Stop for lunch along the coast or enjoy a delicious feast at one of the wonderful wineries. The picturesque town of Denmark is located five hours drive south of Perth and offers a range of drive and walk trails to take in the spectacular countryside. Whilst in the area, allow time to visit the Tree Top Walk which provides you with a unique opportunity to walk high amongst the tree tops, forty metres off the ground.
Willie Creek Pearl Farm is situated just 38km out of Broome or 17kms as the crow flies, on the picturesque protected tidal estuary of Willie Creek itself. For more than two decades, visitors have come to the farm to learn about the process of cultured Pearl Farming and to see first-hand how the most valuable Pearls in the world are produced. The calm and nutrient rich waters of the area make it the perfect spot to see the Pearl-producing Pinctada Maxima oyster in it’s natural habitat.
The crystal clear waters and mangrove lined banks of Willie Creek are home to all kinds of wildlife, from barramundi to brolgas and even a few saltwater crocs! The journey out to Willie Creek is just as exciting, and our visitors are often welcomed by wild brumbies along the way.
