Day 12: Broome to Windjana Gorge

Pass By: Fairfield-Leopold Downs Rd, Windjana Gorge National Park, Western Australia 6728 Australia
Your Broome to Darwin tour begins when we pick you up from your Broome accommodation in the Adventure Truck and immediately head east and into the Kimberley.
Our first stop is the famous Boab prison tree near Derby, a huge hollowed out Boab tree which was used as a prison in the early pioneering days, this is not only an amazing natural wonder but also gives us an insight into the challenging relationship between the early settlers and Aboriginal people of the Kimberley.
Next we head to Windjana Gorge, a huge gorge cut into the ranges over millennium to reveal beautiful scenery of high vertical cliffs, sandy beaches and meandering creek. We head off on a hike at Windjana of about 4km and often see freshwater crocodiles swimming in the clear waterholes.
From Windjana it’s off to our first wilderness bush camp. It feels nice to get back into the great outdoors with the stars above.

Day 13: Windjana Gorge to Bell Gorge

Pass By: Bell Gorge, Gibb River Road Kimberley Region, Western Australia Australia
The mobile phones get packed up with the camping gear as they become useless and we head off nice and early for our first activity, exploring Tunnel Creek.
Tunnel Creek is an amazing natural phenomenon and holds great significance to the local Aboriginal people, and getting there early normally guarantees we have the place for ourselves. It is a 750 metre long stretch of creek, which runs underground through one of the oldest cave systems in Western Australia. Many aboriginal rock paintings are present in the cave and it was a hideout of the Aboriginal warrior, Jandamarra in 1897.
From Tunnel Creek we get on the Gibb River Road, a 700km long outback dirt road which runs between Derby and Kununurra, it’s not the easiest route, the track is often rough, there are a number or deep water crossings and a 4WD vehicle is essential. However, it's an amazing travel route as along the length of the Gibb River Road are vast tracts of wilderness and numerous rivers, gorges and waterfalls to explore.
The first waterfall of the tour is Bell Gorge. After a short 15 minute walk we come to a beautiful creek, which flows through the centre of this impressive gorge and cascades over numerous falls. A deep swimming hole at the base of the main waterfall, surrounded by shady ledges and high cliffs, is an ideal lunch spot.
From Bell Gorge we push on along the Gibb for a little before finding our 2nd bush Camp for the night, another remote wilderness location where we collect firewood, set up camp and settle in for the night.

Day 14: Bell Gorge to Manning Gorge

Pass By: Manning Gorge, 4WD) Manning Rd Via Gibb River Road, Western Australia 6728 Australia
Another day of adventure awaits.
Emerging from camp it’s back on the Gibb River Road and onto Manning Gorge where we spend most of the day.
White sandy beaches with a Pandanus tree lined waterway opening into a wide clear waterhole greet us only minutes after starting the walk. We must swim across the river before following a trail leading to the top of gorge. (or take the pull along tinny boat across if you are unable to swim well) The gorge has a waterfall plus a deep wide swimming hole surrounded by granite cliffs & rock outcrops. It is a spectacular setting with hidden examples of Bradshaw Aboriginal Rock Art.
The return route from manning Gorge is a little less conventional as we swim and rock hop along the creek before reaching the main waterhole where it started, this activity is often rated as a highlight of the tour.
Depending on the time available, Galvan’s and / or Adcock Gorge’s are also visited.
Camp tonight is either at Manning Gorge, where toilets and showers are available, or back into the bush depending on the preference of your guide.

Day 15: Pentecost river crossing

Pass By: Gibb River Road, Between Derby and Kununurra, Western Australia Australia
An early morning swim at Manning is a great way to wake up. From here it’s back on “The Gibb” where we continue on our Easterly trek.
There is a variety of great spots to stop and check out, including secluded water holes and Ellenbrae Cattle Station.
Arriving at the Pentecost River we are presented with an incredible landscape of a wide river surrounded by rugged Cockburn Ranges, a classic Kimberley scene.
Here we need to drive the 4WD through the Pentecost River, driving a vehicle across a 60 metre wide outback river which is occupied by Salt Water Crocodiles is not something you do every day, but it's the only way through so across we go.
Another bush camp under the stars awaits us.

Day 16: Emma Gorge/ El Questro to Purnululu National Park

Pass By: Emma Gorge, Gibb River Road El Questro Wilderness Park, Kununurra, Western Australia 6743 Australia
A short distance from the Pentecost is El Questro Station, home of more beautiful landscapes, one of which is Emma Falls. A hike through a spectacular gorge takes us to very high and narrow falls with a deep cool plunge pool where we can swim.
From El Questro we head to one of the highlights of this tour, Purnululu National Park, more commonly known as the Bungle Bungles.
Our time in this region is spent hiking and exploring the Gorges and amazing landscapes the area contains. The long and dusty track into the Bungles is spectacular; it winds its way through valleys, over ranges and through creeks before arriving at what must be one of the world’s most unique landscapes.
The day ends with a spectacular sunset from a vantage point at camp.

Day 17: Bungle Bungles

Pass By: Great Northern Highway Kimberley Region, via Kununurra, Purnululu National Park, Western Australia 6770 Australia
With an early rise we are able to take advantage of a spectacular Bungle Bungles sunrise, from our vantage point we watch the show with a cup of tea or coffee and breakfast from a remote location.
A short drive from the sunrise area is the trailhead for the Cathedral Gorge hike, a spectacular hike though the beehive formations to Cathedral Gorge. The gorge itself is one of the most impressive geological formations you are likely to see anywhere.
From here there is the opportunity to take a scenic flight over the Bungles, helicopter rides from 18 minutes are available. From the air the bungles take on a completely new perspective and the open chopper is sensational. Scenic flights are at your own expense and organised on the day.
We then head off for Echidna Chasm for a hike into the domes, following a creek to its source at a narrow passage buried within the Bungles.
After lunch we depart Purnululu and locate our bush camp, this time on a lovely creek with a sandy beach.

Day 18: Lake Argyle

Pass By: Kununurra Visitor Centre, 75 Coolibah Dr, Kununurra, Western Australia 6743 Australia
From our bush camp we head for Kununurra, the first sign of civilisation we have seen for a week. As we approach the town the mobile phones start beeping and we take the opportunity to catch up on the world with some free time in this classic outback town while your guide replenishes supplies.
From Kununurra we head to Lake Argyle for what is regularly voted as the highlight of the tour. Lake Argyle is a huge freshwater lake teaming with wildlife, from wallabies in the rocky shores, to freshwater crocodiles to birdlife. We board a boat where a local guide shows us the lake, there is time to swim before we watch the sunset from the water and then camp on one of the remote islands.
This is a great experience, knowing you are the only people on a single island in the middle of one of the most remote lakes in the world is unforgettable.

From around May to October, Humpback, Southern Right and occasionally rare Blue Whales can be seen in Albany’s waters where they frolic, mate and calve. Dolphins and seals can be seen all year round. Seeing whales is our priority on this Safari.

Albany's waters are steeped in history. Imagine what it would have been like when the first explorers arrived as early as 1627 or when the first ANZAC troops departed Albany for WWI in 1914. Cast yourself back in time to the days of the old whaling ships and see the old Whaling Station and a shipwrecked Whale Chaser, the Cheynes II which broke its moorings and ran aground. It’s incredible to view up close and a photographers favourite.

We pass Camp Quaranup, an old quarantine station and navigate through Ataturk Channel, past Point King Lighthouse and Point Possession. View the ANZAC Centre on Mount Clarence from the sea. Out in King George Sound you’ll gaze in awe at the beautiful turquoise waters of Mistaken Island. Pristine white beaches that can be seen include Brambles, Whaling Cove/Fisheries (local nudist beach), Ledge, Gull Rock, Goodes and Middleton Beach.

4 Day Ningaloo Reef Snorkel and Dive Getaway from Coral Bay Logo and Images

4 Day Ningaloo Reef Snorkel and Dive Getaway from Coral Bay

35100 - Exmouth WA 6707

On this 3 night Ningaloo Reef tour we’ll take you to the best places to snorkel and scuba dive, surrounding you with some of the best coral and reef fish you will see in the world. No other Ningaloo Reef tour accesses these areas, so they are pristine and uncrowded.

You will visit a variety of sites suitable for diving & snorkelling rarely visited by other people. Reef sharks, turtles, groupers and sting rays are a common sight, along with all of the macro critters, such as nudibranchs, moray eels and octopus.

Manta Rays are commonly found feeding in shallow waters close to Coral Bay. Dugongs can also be seen on occasions & inquisitive dolphins can be seen chasing fish through the clear water.

Humpback Whales (in season) are a common site on the outer reef as they make their way north on their annual migration & return south with their calves for the summer.

Day 1 - As the tour departs at 4pm, you can fly into Learmonth in the afternoon (last flight arrives around 12:05pm) and there is plenty of time to get to Coral Bay and have a look around before joining us on board. Once you arrive on board Shore Thing, enjoy a late afternoon snorkel or dive near “Five Fingers Reef” before enjoying a cool drink as the sunsets and the vessel sails to its overnight anchorage. Before the evening meal is served, have a go at fishing from the back deck, with the opportunity for a fresh caught meal.

Day 2 - Following breakfast, enjoy a morning snorkel at “The Stag Forest”, a beautiful coral garden exhibiting stunning branching coral formations and home to numerous marine turtles. After morning tea set sail for our next snorkel location the “Sanctuary” where we see reef sharks and turtles cruising and large rays resting as we snorkel along sandy underwater pathways fringed by hard coral outcrops rising to the waters surface. Enjoy a freshly prepared gourmet buffet lunch before immersing yourself into Ningaloo’s clear waters or relaxing on the deck of Shore Thing. The day winds down with another snorkel before a sumptuous two course meal & well deserved rest.

Day 3 - After breakfast enjoy a leisurely kayak trip along the secluded coastline to Pelican Point. Keep an eye out for large rays resting and turtles feeding in the shallow waters. Your crew and guides will then select the best snorkel/dive sites based on the conditions. Some of the favorites include “Syd’s Harbour” and “Goliath’s Den”. We seek out dugongs and dolphins as we travel to our evenings anchorage at Point Maud. June-October there is a fantastic opportunity to observe Humpback Whales as they migrate along the Ningaloo coast.

Day 4 - Ningaloo Reef and Coral Bay is home to a resident population of coastal Manta Rays that frequent the inner reef to mate, give birth and feed. Enjoy a presentation from your local guide on Manta Ray biology and behavior along the Ningaloo Reef and then snorkel with one of these graceful rays where you can assist identifying the Manta Rays via photo identification. Before a sumptuous buffet lunch, enjoy one last snorkel or dive at “Asho’s Gap” which is a cleaning station for grey reef sharks. Watch as the sharks swim in to a large cabbage coral and hold themselves in the currents with their mouths open, whilst small cleaner fish dart in and out of their mouths and gills.

Return to Coral Bay approximately 12:30pm with the option to catch the afternoon airport transfer to Learmonth airport, last departing flights (Qantas 15:20 pm Sunday-Friday, 14:40 pm Saturdays - Contact for information about Airport Transfers), or relax in Coral Bay for a couple of extra nights and join a whale shark tour/humpback whale interaction tour in season, or just chill out on the beach.

By mid morning, you'll arrive at the remote Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. In 1946, Dean Brown skippered a rickety wooden lugger into an unknown frontier to discover this hidden paradise: his descendants continue to operate what is now the oldest Pearl Farm in Australia. After a picnic lunch, enjoy an insight into this remote pearling industry on the farm tour and embark a cruise through the islands of the Giant Tides to experience the remarkable tidal flows of King Sound.

As dusk approaches, you'll reach your private Safari Camp, exclusive to your tour group and nestled on the beach overlooking the bay. In this stunning location, you can swim, explore the mangroves, and perhaps catch a fish for dinner before a warm Kimberley sunset.

Day 2 Kooljaman, Cape Leveque, One Arm Point & Broome (B,L)

Returning to civilization, you'll travel to the One Arm Point perched on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula to visit the Community’s aquaculture hatchery, complete with barramundi, pearl, and trochus shell. After a hatchery tour, you'll join Kevin, your local guide from the Ejai family, traditional owners of the Sunday island group, at the family's beach 'bali'.

Enjoy fresh damper cooked over the fire while Kevin shares the traditions, lifestyle, and culture of his family.

Then, you'll reach beautiful Kooljaman at Cape Leveque. You may like to head off on a snorkeling adventure (equipment provided), or take one of the lovely walks in the area. Alternatively you may prefer to enjoy the pristine beaches and rugged red coastline for which Cape Leveque is famous. Day 1, We begin our adventure as we travel east towards Fitzroy Crossing. (LD)Days 2-3, Visit the town of Halls Creek and see the China Wall enroute to Purnululu National Park, home of the magnificent Bungle Bungles. On arrival in Purnululu, there is time to orient ourselves and settle into our Safari Camp. After a bush sunset, relax with a delicious meal and evening under the stars. Spend the next day exploring the highlights of this extraordinary National Park. Rivers created this landscape of unique orange and black striped ‘beehive’ geological formations over a period of 20 million years. Unbelievably, only the locals knew it existed until the early 1980’s. To protect its unique landscape, the area was made a national park in 1987 and now enjoys World Heritage status. We explore the 2km long Echidna Chasm, known for its towering Livistonia Palm trees, and take a short walk (2-3km) into stunning Cathedral Gorge, where towering rocks create a natural amphitheatre. There is time in the afternoon to take an optional scenic flight and enjoy a birds-eye view of the beehive domes (approx $400pp, own expense) to put it all into perspective. (BLD/BLD)Day 4, We bid farewell to Purnululu and travel to the Mimbi Caves, one of Western Australia’s largest cave systems, in the heart of Gooniyandi Country. These limestone caves are one of the oldest identified sites of human occupation in Australia. Delve into Dreamtime with our local Gooniyandi guide who shares traditional stories and reveals the secrets of Mimbi Caves, a sanctuary of crystal clear pools, rare fossils and ancient rock art. Share fresh damper and billy tea with the Gooniyandi traditional owners before we head for Fitzroy Crossing. (BL)Day 5, Following another night by the Fitzroy River, we head for Bunuba country – once a Devonian reef, this terrain is over 350 million years old and home to a diverse array of animals and plants. In the morning we seek the adventure of Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre cave system in which we discover secret caves and a large variety of wildlife. It is here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal who used the tunnel as a hide-out in the late 1800’s. Swim in the idyllic waterhole at the end of the tunnel before we travel to Windjana Gorge, a delightful oasis in the outback. We enjoy a picnic lunch and search for freshwater crocodiles, local birdlife and Indigenous bushtucker. The Gibb River Road then leads us from the Napier Ranges as we begin the return to Broome via the Derby ‘Boab Prison Tree’. (BL)

Ideally suited to over 50's, you will complete spectacular walks each day and return to comfortable lodge style accommodation each evening. This walk is certainly achievable to those with a moderate level of fitness but if you need a rest day or would like a shorter day of walking then there are options as well. Tours are always guaranteed to depart.

Day 13: Winjana Gorge to Bell Gorge

Day 14: Manning Gorge

Pass By: Manning Gorge, 4WD) Manning Rd Via Gibb River Road, Western Australia 6728 Australia

Day 17: Purnululu National Park/ Bungle Bungles

We have a campfire, the sky is full of stars and the cool water is inviting to those brave souls who want a midnight swim.
