The Big Wheatbelt Day Tour Logo and Images

The Big Wheatbelt Day Tour

35079 - Perth WA 6000

The Wheatbelt is a massive agricultural region extending from Geraldton (about 400km north of Perth) to Esperance (around 800km southeast of Perth). This full day tour covers a fraction of the Wheatbelt and includes heritage towns and many natural attractions all located in the central Wheatbelt Region directly east of Perth.

How much you want to see on this tour is up to you. If you prefer to stay a little longer at the expense of another location thats totally fine. This tour can be many things to different people. There are a lot of changes in landscape simply because we cover a lot of ground in approximately 10 – 12 hours. It’s a visual feast for photographers and random stops are what its all about!.

The towns we pass through are among the oldest in Western Australia and contain some beautifully maintained examples of early Federation, Victorian and Art Deco architecture.

Wave Rock is the furthest point of the tour from Perth and for many it is the highlight of the day. An amazing natural wave shaped rock formation with beautiful ochre and charcoal colouring rising approximately 15m and over 110m long.

There are a range of other attactions at Hyden and Wave Rock. The tourist centre has a restaurant cafe with an impressive dried cut wildflower ceiling display and the largest lace collection in Australia. There is also a 7 acre Wildlife Park which includes wombats, kangaroos, camels, deer, koalas and many wild birds. Hyden also has a very cool scrap metal sculpture promenade.

A few years ago local farmers and creative minds set about creating what has become a highlight in the area. The "Tin Horse Highway" is a 50km stretch of road adorned (or some might unkindly say littered), with recycled drums and tins, shaped into numerous horse-themed poses. This is an optional comical diversion to the tour and small sections can be seen if you want to focus your time on other places.

This Tour is an amazing road trip. A lot of country is covered and it gives an excellent first hand perspective on the size of Western Australia. The tour can be taken at any time of the year but the summer heat can be uncomfortable on the face of Wave Rock so hats with fly netting are essential. Many of the small towns hold shows and festivals during the Spring periods so July – November is ideal.

Experience Fremantle, the city of culture and history. Fremantle was founded in 1829 and was originally known as The Swan River Colony. It was to be known as the “free settlement” and to take its first arrival of four hundred settlers that arrived on the HMS Sulphur captained by Charles Fremantle in June 1829.

This is exciting to us and we would like for you to share the experience and learn about the history of Fremantle with our Fremantle Walking Tour. The walking tour will be a gentle 4 hours (approximately) tour where you will experience the 19th century Fremantle architecture, WA Shipwreck Museum, WA Maritime Museum and the original jail now known as the round house. We will finish our tour with a complimentary lunch at one of the sea side restaurants

Fremantle Walking Tours will commence from Esplanade Park in front of the Carriage Café at 8:00 am where we will do a quick meet and greet as well as an introduction to the tour and what can be expected. Tours will go for around four hours so comfortable footwear is advised. From here we will travel along Mews Road and head towards the WA Shipwreck Museum and experience the Batavia and other shipwreck artifacts found along the Western Australian Coastline. Once absorbing the atmosphere of the WA Shipwreck Museum we will then travel to the Round House which was the first permanent building built in the Swan River Colony (Fremantle) and the oldest building in Western Australia. After leaving round house we can experience Heritage listed buildings while making our way to the WA Maritime Museum on the Indian Ocean's shore. The WA Maritime Museum is symbolic of Fremantle's past, present and future as a coastal city.
