Visitors interested in the local legends of Mad Dan Morgan, a notorious bushranger of the 1860s, can visit Morgan's Lookout, the actual hiding spot that Mad Dan used to evade police capture for so long. This massive white granite outcrop was used by Morgan as a vantage point to watch for approaching victims and police. Today Morgan's Lookout is a popular spot for a picnic, and a challenge to climb the steps to the top of the lookout where there is a spectacular 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside. Visitors interested in the infamous tales of Mad Dan Morgan can also visit the memorial of two local victims of the bushranger, the John McLean Memorial in Culcairn and the Sgt Smyth Memorial in Henty.

Station House - home to seventeen Stationmasters and their families from 1883 to 1979 - is a tangible reminder of the great railway expansion of the last century. For more than 100 years Station House has dominated the railway scene in Culcairn, together with the historical Railway Station the complex reflects the significance of Culcairn as a major rail junction of the steam era. Station House has been faithfully restored and was the winner of the 1994 Tidy Towns Award for 'Cultural and Heritage protection'. The two story brick building with its beautiful wrought iron and stairway, together with the original floors and ceilings, presents one of the best examples of a building of its type in Australia. Early railway memorabilia is also on display. A visit to Station House is a must for heritage lovers, railway enthusiasts, tourists and visitors.

Visitors to Culcairn are able to see the memorial site of John McLean, one of two local victims of the infamous bushranger, Dan Morgan. 'Mad Dan' Morgan was one of the most unpleasant bushrangers of his time. Morgan operated in the Henty, Culcairn, Morven, Gerogery and Tumbarumba area over several years, and was remembered for the notorious murder of local man, John McLean. McLean fell victim to Mad Dan in 1864 when Morgan 'visited' Round Hill Station. Morgan confronted Mrs Watson, the wife of the manager, demanding food. A gunfight between Morgan ensued and McLean was fatally wounded. The memorial of John McLean can be found on the Culcairn Holbrook Road, five minutes drive from Culcairn. Visitors interested in the notorious legend of Mad Dan can also visit other landmarks including the memorial of Sergeant Smyth in Henty and Morgan's Lookout, the hideout he used to evade police.
