In 2005 the decision was made to set up in Moree, due to its high volume of tourist traffic between Melbourne and Brisbane. The aim was to produce premium quality wines from grapes produced in the New England/North West region of New South Wales, while experimenting with grape varieties in Moree to determine their sustainability for the prevailing climate and soil types of the area. Big Plane in Moree originated in 1975 when the Australian Government converted an A65-67 to a Civilian DC3 and on 10 October 1975, handed her over to the Papua New Guinea Defence force, in the name of Foreign Aid, where she was given the Aircraft No P2-003 with the call sign "Defence Force 3". She gave approximately 5000 hours of service to Papua New Guinea until she was pensioned off in 1992, when the port engine developed a massive oil leak and had to be shut down in flight by the pilot, who landed safely at Port Moresby. This DC3 was bought by tender from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force in 1993. The Aircraft was then flown to Moree and towed to the Amaroo Tavern, before officially opening as a tourist attraction in April 1994. Please note: the Big Plane is apart of the Amaroo Tavern

The original rocket was built in Kirkby Park in 1972 to commemorate the Centenary of Education. It was built with money left over from the Centenary of Education Ball held as part of the celebrations. It is believed it was a suggestion of June Mckinnon that something be built for the children of Moree to play on, she was right on the money, many children played and enjoyed it for many years before occupational health and safety took over. The much loved rocket was deemed to be unsuitable and was closed. Today, the giant colourful model has been rebuilt, standing 14.9 metres tall and costing AUD220,000. The rocket was launched on 11 July 2009 by astronomer in charge Dr Fred Watson.

Moree Lands Office Historical Building Logo and Images

Moree Lands Office Historical Building

Frome Street, Moree NSW 2400
The Moree Lands Office is an example of a two-storey timber office building, designed by the colonial architect, Walter Liberty Vernon. One notable employee was Edward Bulwer Lytton Dickens, son of Charles Dickens, who worked in the Lands Office from 1900 to 1902. The building is constructed of timber and corrugated iron and originally contained eight rooms with a central corridor. The design only contained the front and rear veranda. An additional veranda was contracted, connecting the two existing verandas after the building was raised in height in 1902 to 1903. It is likely the reason for the raising of the building was to protect valuable records from floodwaters. The building was almost destroyed by fire on 21st January 1980. The building is significant as an outstanding example of a timber building design for making a strong contribution to the historic Frome Street streetscape with other heritage significant buildings.

The Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre is nature's magic at work! The complex has recently undergone a AUD7 million redevelopment. Today, you don't have to go to Europe to enjoy these health benefits, for this can be experienced in the beautiful township of Moree. The famous Moree Hot Mineral Baths originated in 1895, when the baths mercurial waters were accidentally discovered. While searching for a reliable source of irrigation water, a bore was sunk into the Great Artesian Basin. Amazingly, this bore derived hot mineral waters, heated naturally at 41 degrees Celsius. The baths are visited by 300,000 people annually, who travel to experience the therapeutic benefits....
