Cabernet Sauvignon is a speciality here, and the range of wines is certain to expand your experience of this great grape variety. Of course there are traditional Cabernet reds, but there's also a white version, a tawny, an 'ice Cabernet', and even a Cabernet jelly that's perfect with one of Redbox's cheese platters.' Ralph Kyte-Powell The eight acre vineyard in Kangaroo Ground at the Western end of the Yarra Valley in the Shire of Nillumbik was planted to Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet in 1986. The property was named "Wildfell" by a pioneering Scotsman, Walter Wippel, who settled this property in the Kangaroo Ground area in the early 1850's; establishing orchards, market gardens and grazing land. No doubt, wine production was high on the list of priorities, and the rich decomposed volcanic soils assisted in this pursuit. Over 150 years on, the Kangaroo Ground area has seen the establishment of a number of new vineyards due to the high quality of the fruit and ideal growing conditions. It's proximity to Melbourne and the rolling hills broken by dense stands of Red Box and other eucalypts makes it a haven for weekend visitors and wine tasters from all over. Enjoy your visit on any Saturday or Sunday at the Redbox Cellar Door in Ness Lane, Kangaroo Ground - in the high country at the west end of the Yarra Valley, where excellence attracts the wine buff, and the Nillumbik landscape enchants all those who venture to explore.

Samson Hill Winery & Restaurant

360 Eltham - Yarra Glen Rd, Kangaroo Ground VIC 3097

Samson Hill Winery and Restaurant at Kangaroo Ground, 28 kilometres north east of Melbourne CBD, was established in 1998 on a spectacular location overlooking the City of Melbourne, the surrounding mountains to Kinglake, the Dandenong's and much more. The views are second to none and the clean air is plentiful. The concept of the founding family was to strive for quality only and develop full bodied rich reds and crisp fruity whites. Wines that can be enjoyed immediately but may also be kept in cellar for many years and would mature beautifully. The varieties grown on the property are, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Verdelho. From these the founders have produced a full bodied Shiraz, a bold Pinot Noir, a delicate Rose and two varieties from the Verdelho - a sweet and a dry, both with the same bold fruity, floral nose and crisp melon characters (very popular). Oakridge Wines

864 Maroondah Hwy, Coldstream VIC 3770

Since its founding in 1978, Oakridge Wines has been making wine in the Yarra Valley and has evolved as an outstanding winery. Bordered by the mountains of the Great Dividing Range and stretching across 10 hectares of landscaped vines and gardens along Maroondah Highway, the family-owned estate is dedicated to producing outstanding and distinctive wines while providing visitors with a truly memorable wine and food experience. Oakridge Wines are characterised by their restraint and finesse and demonstrate true regional and varietal expression. This is achieved by carefully sourcing fruit for each varietal from the most suitable sub-region in the Yarra Valley. Meticulous viticulture, modern winemaking technology and traditional techniques have resulted in well-balanced wines showing intense varietal flavours. The new architechturally designed restaurant (opened October 2013) gives way to the most stunning views the estate has to offer, and is an important part of the Oakridge experience. With every turn of the season, Chef Jose Chavez adapts the menu by creating a selection of dishes guaranteed to excite your palate with cuisine relating to the surrounding produce and flavours of the Valley. Open for wine tasting & lunch daily from 10am, and Sunday breakfast from 8am. The perfect venue for celebratory drinks, birthday functions or to celebrate your special day. 'Oakridge was established over 30 years ago, and now it provides some of the best of all Yarra wines. Subtlety, complexity and refinement are hallmarks of the label, but great wine is only one of Oakridge's attractions. The smart, contemporary restaurant serves seasonal produce with fl air and imagination, while the soothing vistas of lake, hills, valley and vineyard from here are food for the soul. A must-see and must-taste destination for all visitors to the Yarra.' Review by Ralph Kyte-Powell.

GREENSTONE VINEYARDS Logo and Images

GREENSTONE VINEYARDS

179 Glenview Rd, Yarra Glen VIC 3775

Greenstone Vineyards is situated on 90 acres at the base of the Christmas Hills, in Yarra Glen. Our picturesque Yarra Valley vineyard, winery & cellar door is only 1 hour from Melbourne’s CBD.

Our focus on producing only the finest wines from the finest grapes means that Greenstone has only ever produced very small quantities of wine – we are not interested in making higher volume commercial wines, rather small volume, handcrafted and premium wines. The Greenstone wine portfolio encompasses both our Heathcote and Yarra Valley vineyards, producing a select range of wine varietals in the way that we think great wines are made – by starting with the best sites that produce the best grapes. These wines will always be a reflection of the unique characteristics of their regional site.

With sweeping views of the Yarra Valley, and the Dandenong ranges beyond, the Greenstone Vineyards cellar door has brought our wines closer to its consumers, creating the opportunity for people to try our wines and understand the Greenstone philosophy, whilst being immersed in the heart of the Yarra Valley and its wine-making history.

Call in for a casual tasting, a more formal wine experience, or to simply unwind with a glass of Greenstone wine. Enjoy the company of friends on or beautiful deck or expansive lawn whilst taking in the spectacular scenery.

History
Formerly Greenstone of Heathcote, Greenstone Vineyards began in 2003 as a 40 hectare property north of the town of Heathcote, at Colbinabbin. The vineyard is positioned on the ridge of Cambrian soil that runs through the eastern side of the range. This narrow strip is unique, not only to vines grown in Victoria, but in Australia. These deep red soils, mottled with lime, are the oldest known in the country, originating over 550 million years ago.  It is from these soils that the winery derived its name - the Heathcote ‘Greenstone’ is a form of copper-infused basalt, and is an integral part of the soil. The climate and generous red soils of the Heathcote vineyard create a unique combination that is ideal for producing outstanding, award-winning Shiraz and Sangiovese wines.

The success of Greenstone’s Heathcote wines inspired the team to explore opportunities to expand our wine range further. This search led to the Yarra Valley - the home of some of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet varietals.

Originally Yarra Ridge, the winery was more recently known as Sticks Yarra Valley. Greenstone Vineyards completed the acquisition of the vineyard and winery in January 2015.

St Huberts Cellar Door & Vineyard Logo and Images

St Huberts Cellar Door & Vineyard

1 St Huberts Rd, Coldstream VIC 3770

Originally established in 1862, St Huberts Vineyard is one of the fabled properties that made Yarra Valley wines famous in the 1800s. Replanted in the 1960s, it's again at the heart of the region's wine story. The welcoming cellar door at the edge of the vineyard has interesting photographs of the estate in its 19th century heyday to reflect on. The labels on the bottles resemble the old originals, but the wines are modern styles and very good across a range of types. There are also rare specials like Roussanne to explore.' Review by Ralph Kyte-Powell. The modern St Huberts Vineyard estate is the reincarnation of one of Victoria's most famous and historic vineyard properties. 120 years ago St Huberts Vineyard's wines were the toast of the colony, winning awards internationally, as well as mightily pleasing the grandees back home. Today's St Huberts Vineyard was one of the properties that launched the Yarra Valley's second golden age in the 1960s, and the wines continue to be good examples of regional styles. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are the stars here; don't miss them.
